![]() | Body Shaping Slow, quick, quick, 4 and 1, keep your head high, step, step, 2 and 3, hold up your frame, keep your eyes off of the floor, breathe, relax 2, 3, 4 and 1, ......... Yes, that is what you have to think about; ummmmm, (don't know if I can do this??????). Dancing in itself is an interpretation of the music through the use of the body. One must feel the music they are dancing to, the " MUSIC IS THE BOSS". In order for a couple to learn a few basics of Ballroom Dance they must be able to meet the following criteria(well at least a couple of these anyway): (1) have the understanding of time within the particular dance HAVE FUN (2) to learn the characteristics of each particular dance HAVE FUN (3) some comprehension of music HAVE FUN (4) transferring weight from foot to foot HAVE FUN (5) centering, balancing HAVE FUN (6) posturing HAVE FUN (7) body rhythm HAVE FUN (8) foot pressures HAVE FUN (9) stretching the body to create body lines HAVE FUN (10) shaping the body to create attitude towards the dance and the feeling music HAVE FUN | ![]() |
As seen in the pictures above (left and right) you will notice many things like stretching, elongating, and shaping of their bodies to create long body lines, this is so important when you are dancing. This creates more tone and strength to your favorite dance. This will also add finesse and exude confidence to your dancing. Posture is one of the biggest hurdles to overcome when dancing, among other small details.
Hopefully, these tips will help you out on the floor, keep on improving and develop your dancing at your own speed it will all come together, eventually, patience and commitment will be the big pay off. Wait!!!!!! You'll See!

Saturday April 13 Showcases Refreshments Silent Auction Dance: 9 pm to 12 pm | Shirley's Dance Studio has been involved in Competitive Ballroom Dancing for several years. In Feb/2002 at La Classic du Quebec in Montreal, Frank Ferlaino and Rene' Estella won gold in the Pre - Bronze level Latin Category. As Ballroom Dancing interest increases, we at Shirley's have more students with the potential dancing skills to enter these competitions. It is Shirley's goal to encourage all the students interested in going further with their dancing talents. With the upcoming Olympics and the potential inclusion of Ballroom Dancing, Shirley's has agreed to help sponsor their students in further Ballroom Competitions. With traveling, hotel accommodations, food, and costuming expenses these competitions can become quite costly. In the upcoming year, along with Frank Ferlaino and Rene' Estella, Martin Nietrzeba and Alea Goodmanson will be also competing. To offset the expenses required for these competitions. Shirley's will be holding Silent auctions as part of our fundraising efforts. Any consideration to donate to our auctions, monetarily or any other means, would be greatly appreciated. We will also be advertising our sponsors on ShirleysDanceStudio.com sponsor page. This opportunity will not only benefit you as the sponsor; being advertised and having exposure on our Website, in addition the competitors will have an opportunity to participate in more competitions. We can be reached at (204) 233-0609 Thank-you Shirley Caron Todd Parker |
